NGX All-Share Index gains 176bps w/w, extending its bullish momentum for a third consecutive week

SAT DEC 20 2025-theGBJournal| The Nigerian equities markeyt extended its upward trajectory for the third consecutive week this month, as the NGX All Share Index (ASI) advanced by 1.76% w/w, to close at 152,057.38 points.

Consequently, the year-to-date return expanded to 47.73% from 45.19% in the previous week, while the market capitalisation appreciated by N1.67trn w/w, to settle at N96.94 trillion.

The positive performance was underpinned by buying interest in select large and mid-cap counters, including BUAFOODS (+6.02% w/w), FIRSTHOLDCO (+42.93% w/w), BUACEMENT (+4.94% w/w), and NESTLE (+10.00% w/w).

These gains more than offset profit taking in DANGCEM (-0.80% w/w), GTCO (-2.00% w/w), and TRANSCORP (-2.84% w/w).

Sectoral performance was largely positive, with only the Oil & Gas (-0.17% w/w) closing in the red. The Consumer Goods (+4.51% w/w) led the sectoral gainers, followed by the Insurance (+3.07% w/w), Banking (+2.75% w/w), and Industrial Goods (+0.72% w/w) indices.

In Friday’s session, the market sustained its positive close, with both the ASI and market capitalisation adding 1.13%, respectively.

Market activity was mixed, with volume expanding by 79.20%, while the value of trades contracted by 33.49%. NEIMETH (-2.38%) dominated trading activity, with 500 million units exchanged, valued at N3.01 billion.

Market breadth settled positive at 1.36x, reflecting a higher number of gainers than losers. AUSTINLAZ (-10.00%) topped the thirty-four (34) gainers, while SOVRENINS led the twenty-five (25) decliners, with the remaining stocks closing flat.

The NASD OTC market closed the week on a bearish note, as the NASD OTC Securities Index (NSI) and market capitalisation declined 1.50% w/w, to close at 3,546.41 points and N2.12trn, respectively.

In the market today, the NSI and market capitalisation also declined by 1.21%, respectively. Market activity was notably down, with the volume and value declining by 93.48% and 64.34%, respectively.

SDAIRLIQ (+7.77%) ranked as the top gainer, while SDCSCSPLC (-8.59%) led the decliners in today’s session.
