…His approval rating nosedives to its lowest in four years

THUR, JUNE 06 2019-theG&BJournal- From a high of an average of 63.9% in his first year in office, President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval rating nosedived to an average of 41.3 percent by the end of his fourth year in office. On the average, his approval rating in his first term in office was at 49.3 percent. His latest rating of 36 percent in May 2019 is the worst since he assumed office a little over four years ago.

The president has came under fire for his handling of the numerous challenges the country face including his handling of the Fulani herdsmen saga and over all country security challenges. Some country watchers say he didn’t do enough also on the main item on his menu when he came into power in 2015-Corruption.  On education, infrastructure, healthcare, job creation and poverty alleviation he took hefty knocks and the latest approval rating reflects the disenchantment.

The survey on his ratings was carried out by the NOIPolls which has been conducting these polls on a monthly basis to evaluate the performance of Nigeria’s sitting president since January 2013.

According to the survey, starting off with his 3 cardinal policy thrusts, the president was rated 36 percent on Security, 27 percent on Corruption, and 16 percent on the Economy.

Correspondingly, he scored 37 percent on Agriculture and Food Security, 26 percent on Power, 25 percent on Healthcare, 24 percent on Education, 22 percent on Infrastructure, 15 percent on Job Creation, and 13 percent on Poverty Alleviation.

‘’Averagely, the President was rated poorly on all indicators analysed in his first term in office,’’ NOIPolls said in the survey published yesterday.
