NCDC reports fewer new coronavirus cases but total infections climb to 6175

TUE, MAY 19 2020-theG&BJournal- Nigeria recorded fewer daily coronavirus infection-216- than it did on Sunday-338, from Monday’s data, but the total number of infections rose to 6175, according to latest data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Death toll also climbed by 9 to new total of 191 while 1644 cases have been discharged.
The drop in daily number of infections on Monday follows the long-running trend which had seen new infections rise sharply and fall sharply as well next day.
The number of active cases also climbed to 4,340 while the top five states with most infections have a total of 3, 379 patients on admission.
The least infected states, Imo, Bayelsa, Anambra, Benue and Abia have a total of 19 patients on admission. A total of 35,345 samples have been tested to date by the various laboratories in the country.
The 216 new cases were reported from 15 states- Lagos (74), Katsina (33), Oyo (19), Kano (17), Edo (13), Zamfara (10), Ogun (8), Borno (8), Gombe (8), Bauchi(7), Kwara (7), FCT (4), Kaduna (3), Enugu (3) and Rivers (2).
Lagos still the epicentre, have sent a total of 556 patients home so far after treatment but daily infections have continued to climb relentlessly with 2,624 cases reported in total as at Monday. Kano is following closely as well with a total of 842 cases while FCT, Katsina and Borno have a total of 422, 281 and 223 coronavirus infected patients respectively. These top 5 most infected states have a combined total of 4, 392 coronavirus infections, two third of the country’s total.
