MON, JAN 08 2024-theGBJournal|The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Monday signified intention to bar Globacom subscribers from temporarily calling MTN for interconnect infraction. But MTN subscribers will still be able to receive calls from the Glo network, when the penalty takes effect.
This is as a result of the partial approval granted to MTN Nigeria Communications Plc to disconnect Globacom due to non-settlement of interconnect charges.
The NCC in a ‘Pre-disconnection notice release, said Globacom was notified of the application made by MTN, and given opportunity to comment and state its case.
”The Commission, having examined the application and circumstances surrounding the indebtedness, determined that Globacom does not have sufficient or justifiable reason for non-payment of the interconnect charges,” NCC said.
Meanwhile, the approval granted for the partial disconnection of Globacom to MTN is given in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and Paragraph 9 of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2021.
NCC said that at the expiration of ten days from the date of the notice, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN, but will be able to receive calls.
”The partial disconnection, however, will allow in-bound calls to Globacom network,” NCC noted.
