FRI, MAY 22 2020-theG&BJournal- Traditional Medical and Herbal Practitioners in Nigeria Thursday met with the Minister of State for Health, Dr Adeleke Mamora and the President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Sam Ohuabunwa to submit their applications for the coronavirus (COVID-19) cure through the Department of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the Federal Ministry of Health.
The Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye who was also at the meeting explained to the Traditional Medical and Herbal Practitioners the application processes and timeline for submitting.
The NAFDAC boss told them that the Agency does toxicity test to ensure the safety of the drugs but the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) does the scientific clinical research before approving the drugs.
Dr Mamora advised all the participants of the meeting to submit their remedy to both NAFDAC and NIPRD for further analysis and evaluation of their products before a recommendation can be made.
