FRI, 26 AUG, 2022-theGBJournal| The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) today rescinded its earlier decision to revoke licenses of 52 broadcast outfits in Nigeria.

In place of the revocation, the Commission announced it has decided to temporarily suspend the shutdown of the broadcast outfits which it says are indebted to it.

The decision was announced today by the NBC Director General, Balarabe Shehu who consequently on behalf of the Commission ordered their closure with 24 hours.

The Commission in a statement said, the decision is sequel to a follow-up meeting held with executives of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), and other critical stakeholders in the industry.

The NBC held its meeting with BON Thursday where its DG Balarabe Shehu said the Commission is not out to gag the media, or destroy the broadcasting industry in Nigeria.

The NBC had on Friday, August 19th, 2022, issued a shutdown notice to licensee that are indebted to the Commission.

The Commission said it received positive responses from the debtor Licensees, including big players in the broadcast industry following its ultimatum.
