National Broadcasting Commission revokes licenses of 52 broadcast outfits in Nigeria

FRI, 19 AUG, 2022-theGBJournal| The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has ordered the revocation of licenses of 52 broadcast outfits in Nigeria, premising its decision on the indebtedness of the outfits to the Commission and failure to renew their broadcast licenses.

The decision was announced today by the NBC Director General, Balarabe Shehu who consequently on behalf of the Commission ordered their closure with 24 hours.

It said that the debt owed the Commission amounts to about N2.66 billion

Notable names affected by the order include AIT and Ray Power Network owned by renowned media mogul, Raymond Dokpesi. Others are all Silverbird FM stations in Abuja, Lagos, Yenagoa, Portharcourt, Jos and Benin City, MITV Ibadan, Classic FM.
