LAGOS, JULY 13, 2016 – The Nigeria Automobile and Technician Association (NATA), Lagos State chapter, has urged the State Government to curb the excesses of miscreants at mechanic villages in the state. The chapter’s president, Mr Jacob Fayeun, said on Wednesday in Lagos that the miscreants’ activities in the mechanic villages had become worrisome.
He said that these criminals operated late in the night, usually as gangsters to steal and destroy shop owners and their customers’ property, including expensive cars.
“We beg the State Government to come to our aid and reduce the activities of these miscreants at the mechanic villages.
“Their activities have caused a lot of problems to our members, as they steal and vandalise expensive cars, thereby putting the owners into debts.
“The most disturbing part of their activities is that after carrying out their operations in the night, the NATA members end up buying the same stolen parts the next day at Ladipo market.
“We are calling on the State Government and the police to help us improve the security situation at the mechanic villages,’’ Fayeun said.
“Two weeks ago, these hoodlums went to Ilasamaja Mechanic Village and stole as well as vandalised expensive vehicles including Infinity Jeep and Pathfinder.
“We reported the case to the police and the police promised to investigate the matter
but since then, it seems nothing is being done about it,’’ the NATA president said.
Fayeun implored Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to provide land for his members to operate, saying this was a way for the government to generate more income through tax.
