WED AUG 28 2024-theGBJournal|The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NFDAC) has warned bakers against the use of saccharine in bread, saying the practice is not permitted under the Nigerian Industrial Standard (NIS) and Codex General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA).
”Any baker found using unapproved additives like saccharine will be sanctioned according to the extant regulatory provisions,” the Agency warned.
Meanwhile, the Agency has emphasized that at no point did it advise Nigerians to avoid bread produced in the country after reports emerged that the Agency raised concerns about bread safety in Nigeria.
NAFDAC said the claims do not reflect its stance while clarifying the ”misleading” video on bread safety in Nigeria.
”We strongly dissociate ourselves from the misleading statements in the video and reassure the public that NAFDAC remains committed to its role in safeguarding the health of the nation.”
