More Nigerians fleeing war in Ukraine arrive Hungary as Ghana becomes first Africa country to evacuate its citizens

Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary, Mrs Modupe Irele was on hand to receive Nigerians from Ukraine at the Hungary border

TUE 01 MARCH, 2022-theGBJournal- The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said today that more Nigerians have arrived Budapest, Hungary, as efforts to quickly evacuate them ramps up.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary, Mrs Modupe Irele was on hand to receive them at the border.

The Federal Government gave assurances that Air Peace will begin their evacuation from Wednesday, after the Speaker of the House of Representatives,  Femi Gbajabiamila met with the Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Onyeama also met with Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to finalize plans to evacuate Nigerians  fleeing the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, speaking on Channels Television last night said there are currently 1,000 Nigerians who have now crossed into Romania from Ukraine, promising that they will be airlifted back to Nigeria in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Ghana becomes the first African country to evacuate its citizens from Ukraine, after the first batch of 17 students arrived Tuesday morning at Kotoko, International Airport, Accra.  Ghana’s Government foreign minister said 460 students are fleeing the conflict.
