SUN, JAN 19 2020-theG&BJournal- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought Manchester United to Anfield for the first for this pertinent and personal rivalry-always the fiercely competitive and hugely entertaining encounter.
Liverpool was set up fearlessly too, as always to go after their opponents. It has been 1001 days since today since Lost a league game on their turf.
The pace was frenetic from start, scrappy at times but intense. United was playing tight but Liverpool found space on the flank with Sadio Mane and Mo Sallah ghosting in and between the flanks and the middle.
When the first goal of the game came in the 14th minute it was almost like it wasn’t going to happen but it did. And it came from the young Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk, one of the world’s most expensive defenders. Van Dijk timed his run to meet an outstanding and sublime corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold`with a stronger header. David De Gea the Manchester United goal keeper had no chance.
Liverpool came out in the second half with intent to kill the game off quickly, showing class. Within 5 minutes of the half they were already up 75 percent in ball possession. Man United just couldn’t get hold of the ball.
But Man United found their wings suddenly. 57 minutes-they could have been level. But more importantly, they started to believe the game was within grasp. But that was as far as they could press.
Mo Salah sealed it in a dramatic fashion after a fantastic drilled pass by goal keeper Allison left him with the whole half to run. The Egyptian did not disappoint. The fan’s roar did not only celebrate the goal but the audacity of Salah’s run. Liverpool 2-0 Man U.
Another big win for Liverpool- victory number 20 in 21 games and one that sends them 16 points clear. The win reflects their unbelievable desire throughout the course of the season.
