SAT JULY 26 2025-theGBJournal| Nigeria’s Super Falcons beat Morocco 3-2 in a stunning second half come-back to secure a record 10th win in women’s senior African football championship tournament, in Rabat, Morocco.

From 2-0 down in the first half, the Super Falcons bounced back with three stunning goals in the second half to reign supreme once again on the continent.

Morocco dominated the first half of the match, and deservedly went into the lead just 13 minutes into the game, and scored again couples of minutes before the end of the first half to take what many Moroccans thought was an unassailable lead.

Captain Ghizlane Chebbak scored the 13th minute goal that sent Morocco, host of the tournament, into the lead, and in the 24th minute Sanaâ Mssoudy doubled Morocco’s lead.

However, on the 61st minute into the game, in the second half , the Super Falcon began the ‘Miracle in Rabat’, a come back that will resonate for a long time.

Esther Okoronkwo netted from the spot to bring Nigeria back into the game after the hour mark when a VAR review handed Nigeria a lifeline.

A handball by Nouhaila Benzina resulted in the penalty, which was coolly dispatched by Okoronkwo to make it 2-1.

Okoronkwo then set up fellow forward, Folashade Ijamilusi to score with a stunning strike in the 71th minute to level the scores.

Jennifer Echegnni completed the miraculous come back with a half volley from a set piece in the dying minutes of the game to secure Nigeria the win against Morocco who were hoping to clinch their first-ever continental title on home soil.

It was a heartbreaking end for millions of Moroccans and their head coach Jorge Vilda, who had impressed throughout the tournament.
