TUE MAY 20 2025-theGBJournal| The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, is leading the Nigerian delegation to the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting which began in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium today.

The AU-EU partnership has evolved over a long period of time. Institutionally, it began with the first AU-EU summit in Cairo, Egypt, in 2000. Since then, five summits have been held where valuable decisions were taken to define the relationship between the regions.

On Wednesday, the foreign ministers from the European Union will convene to assess progress since the 2022 Summit and strengthen cooperation.

According to an AU statement, ”their discussion will focus on implementing existing commitments and identifying new opportunities for partnership.”

The upcoming Ministerial Meeting will be preceded by the meetings of the African Group of Ambassadors on 19th May 2025 and that of the Senior Officials on 20th May 2025, respectively.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to make an intervention on Peace, Security and Governance at the plenary during the meeting.
