WED, 09 NOV, 2022-theGBJournal| Trading in the NGX Exchange edged a positive performance in today’s session, as the All-Share Index notched a 4bps gain to close at 43,477.48 points.
Precisely, bargain hunting in DANGCEM (+0.6%) supported the market’s performance. Consequently, the Month-to-Date loss and Year-to-Date returns settled at -0.8% and +1.8%, respectively.
The total volume traded declined by 46.6% to 133.41 million units, valued at NGN1.81 billion, and exchanged in 3,078 deals. FBNH was the most traded stock by volume at 30.38 million units, while DANGCEM was the most traded stock by value at NGN318.11 million.
Sectoral performance was mixed as the Oil & Gas (-0.7%), Insurance (-0.4%), and Consumer Goods (-0.2%) indices declined, while the Industrial Goods (+0.3%) index advanced. The Banking index closed flat.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive (1.1x) as 12 tickers gained relative to 11 losers. UNITYBNK (+9.1%) and LINKASSURE (+7.7%) topped the gainers’ list, while HONYFLOUR (-9.1%) and PRESTIGE (-8.7%) recorded the most significant losses of the day.
The Treasury bills secondary market traded in a lull, as market participants anticipated the result of today’s PMA. Thus, the average yield was unchanged at 10.9%. Similarly, the average yield closed flat at 10.2% in the OMO segment.
Proceedings in the Treasury bond secondary market were quiet as the average yield closed flat at 14.5%. Across the benchmark curve, the average yield closed flat at the short and mid segments but pared at the long (-1bp) end as investors demanded the APR-2037 (-4bps) bond.
The overnight lending rate expanded by 8bps to 8.8%, in the absence of any significant outflow from the system.
The naira appreciated by 0.1% to NGN445.67/USD at the I&E window.
