WED 21 APRIL, 2021-theGBJournal- Manchester City Football Club has become the first club to confirm quitting the European Super League, a new mid-week competition governed by its founding Clubs, AC Milan, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Man City confirmed in a brief statement Tuesday that it has ‘’formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League.’’

Another top flight English Football club, Chelsea were reported by the BBC to be readying paperwork to exit the controversial new competition reportedly backed by the American investment bank JP Morgan.

FIFA wrote in their twitter handle that they welcome the news that some of the clubs have decided to abandon the plans for the European Super League.

UEFA, the English Football Association and the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A issued a statement threatening the banning of all clubs involved in the new league from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams after news of the Super League broke.

The latest development sign posts the disintegration of the competition before it even took off.
