FRI, 22 JULY, 2022-theG&BJournal| Ibom Air becomes the latest airline on the growing list of airlines in the country to sound the alarm on the impact of aviation scarcity across the country.

The local carrier put a terse statement today warning that the scarcity might now result in some flight cancellations, noting that the growing unavailability of aviation fuel has greatly impacted on their operations.

‘’While this situation is unprecedented and disruptive to our value proposition, we assure you that it is as distressing to us as it is to you,’’ the airline said in the statement signed by its GM Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette.

The airline however, assured it will continue to do everything in their ability to operate their flight schedule as close as to 100% as possible while looking forward to normalcy being restored at the earliest.

The scarcity, according to aviation experts who spoke theG&BJournal, could plunge the sector into serious financial crisis leading to unprecedent disruption and inconvenience to air travelers in the country.

Many of the airlines have jacked up fares in some of the busiest routes and charging as high as N80,000 from N40,000. Others have completely shut their counters and cancelled or delayed their schedules as passengers seek alternatives to get to their destination.

Last week, frustrated passengers were seen stranded at the Abuja airport.

Barely a month ago, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) warned about the growing impact of the aviation-the Jet-A1 fuel scarcity and rising cost, threatening to shut down operations.
