JIGAWA, AUGUST 9, 2016 – Alhaji Ali Alkali, Chairman, Malammadori Local Government of Jigawa, has called on traders and business entrepreneurs to ensure prompt payment of taxes to enhance revenue generation.Alkali made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Malammadori.

He said that the call became imperative to promote good habit and encourage tax payment among traders and businesses.

Alkali said that the council had embarked on sensitisation activities to create awareness on the importance of payment of tax in the society.

The chairman added that the council was working in collaboration with trade unions and associations to mobilise their members on the new revenue generation drive.

He said that the council had also constituted a task force committee to enhance revenue generation and administration.

Alkali explained that the committee was mandated to explore new sources of revenue, hitherto not utilised by the council.

The chairman lamented that the council could not meet its financial obligations due to decimal revenues received from the Federation Account.

“It is a positive step towards expanding sources of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“This is necessary to enhance revenue generation and operations of the government towards improving social and economic well-being of the people,” he said.

According to him, the committee had identified gravel excavation sites, motor parks and village markets as some of the focus areas.
