TUE, APRIL 17 2018-theG&BJournal-The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the Premier Chamber of Commerce and a leading voice in the organised private sector (OPS) in Nigeria, is set to hold a workshop in collaboration with Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited to mark the 2018 World Malaria Day. This is aimed at creating awareness about the scourge of malaria, its impact on economic growth and possible solutions to curb the scourge.
The workshop, according to LCCI, is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 24th April, 2018 at the Commerce House, 1, Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos at 10:00am.
Muda Yusuf, Director General of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) said: “The theme of the workshop is “Innovations in Malaria Control.” As part of activities to mark the day, winners of the 2017 Nigeria Prize for science, sponsored by the NLNG will address participants on the theme of the workshop using the findings of their research on malaria.
Yusuf further stressed that, “there is the need for citizens to partner with government and its agencies to reduce the high rate of fatalities caused by this “monster-killer” known as malaria. This is so important because, according to the World Health Organisation, nearly half of the world’s population is at risk of malaria and four hundred and twenty-nine thousand (429,000) deaths are recorded annually.”
Yusuf also emphasized that, there is no better time to tackle the scourge of malaria than now. He further hinted that seasoned health and medical professionals will be available to engage participants at the workshop. While the President of the LCCI, Mr. Babatunde Paul Ruwase, FCA would chair the event.
