The Lagos State Government (LASG) says it has released N10.8billion to its contractors for the completion of the ongoing construction of 114 roads in its local government areas by June end.

This is contained in a statement released by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr Muslim Folami, in Lagos on Wednesday.

Folami said that the construction of the roads was made possible through tax payers’ money.

“The second stage payment of N5.5 billon released to contractors on Monday represents 61 per cent of the N17.85 billion, total cost of the 114 roads,” he said.

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode had in January inaugurated the construction of 114 inner roads in the state’s 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas to boost economic activities and improve vehicular movement.

Folami said that as long as residents continue to fulfill their civic responsibilities and obligations, the government would continue to ensure they enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“We are using this medium to urge residents to continue to pay their taxes, so as to be able to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“The monies they are paying in form of taxes are what the government is using to construct these roads across the length and breadth of the state,” the commissioner said.

Folami said that aside the completion of the ongoing road projects across the metropolis, the state government had also embarked on the Light-Up-Lagos Project.

He said this was fast spreading across major highways and streets as well as construction of bridges, flyovers, among others.
