MON, 28 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi today, at a press conference to give updates on recent developments on the COVID-19 2nd wave, reported disturbing COVID-19 certificate racketeering in the State, with most COVID-19 positive individuals reporting fake results.
‘’We suspect that people are gaining access to fake certificates,’’ the Commissioner said.
‘’We have noticed that there a few fake COVID certificates in the market, they are cloned and we are carrying out sting operations. We are going to clamp down on any opportunity for people to sell or make available fake certificates.’’
He described the racketeering as ‘’a very dangerous activity’’ reminding the perpetrators that they are putting people in a lot of danger.
The Commissioner said the State health officials also, suspect that people are testing negative although they are incubating the coronavirus which would eventually manifest.
‘’We are putting certain things in place to ensure that if you have a COVID-19 free certificate from any one of our laboratories, then that is a true COVID certificate,’’ he said, suggesting that any certificate presented from unverifiable testing facility will not be accepted as genuine.
