TUE OCT 15 2024-theGBJournal| Commercial operations of the Lagos Red Line (LMRT Red Line), chugged off Monday, aiming to offer an efficient and sustainable mass transit option for Lagos, with a population of over 20 million.

Passenger services kicks off from Agbado to Oyingbo in the metropolis, and will create the first modernized transport connection within the city.

”We’re on a mission to keep Lagos moving, and the Red Line is a key part of our vision to create a seamlessly connected city.

It is also our second rail system to become operational in less than two years,” the Lagos State Governor said as he flagged of the multi-billion naira project.

Spanning 27 kilometers, the Red Line has eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.

The train service is projected to move about 500,000 Lagosians daily as we ramp up the schedule and provide a viable means of commuting.

Daily passenger services will depart from Agbado at 6:00 AM, with the second train leaving Iju Station at 7:30 AM. Make sure you have your Cowry Card ready to board.

The Lagos city metro operators rolled out at the same time fares, that many commuters in Lagos say is a ”common man” fare- ranging from N500 to N1, 500 per trip.

The two new rail line (the Blue Line and the Redline) will provide much-needed transportation option given the perennial surge of vehicular fares amid volatile petrol prices in Nigeria.
