MON. 09 JANUARY, 2023-theGBJournal| ”I am indeed glad to inform the good people of Lagos that with the arrival of these trains sets, we’re on course with our plans to change the face of the rail transport system in Lagos,” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu wrote on his twitter handle today to announce the receipt of the new trains.
He said the transport trains have been moved to the National Theatre station where they have been lifted on the elevated rail tracks, underscoring intention of the Lagos State Government to get the project operational from the first quarter of this year as promised.
The State Government announced the arrival of the trains last week while it was awaiting clearance at the port. The announcement followed the completion of the first phase of the Blue Line Matro station running from Mile 2 to Marina, Lagos.
The Blue Line, run on electric power supplied by an IPP, is projected to convey 200, 000 passengers daily, making Lagos one of the world cities with a functional mass transit system.
President Muhammadu Buhari will commission this first phase of the Blue Line on January 24th, 2023 while simultaneously flagging off construction of the Phase 2 from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
