FRI, APRIL 24 2020-theG&BJournal-The Controversial killing of a policewoman around Eneka axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State has been described as “the Tragedy of Brick and Mortar Governance,” by the ex-spokesman of Rivers State All Progressive Congress APC.
Senibo Chris Finebone in a statement said, “I believe that eyewitness account will help unravel what actually happened. Very likely that it was either done by policemen attached to the task force team or policemen on routine beat shooting one of their own attached to the task force team. The truth will come out ultimately.”
“Now, this is within the city. What will happen when the Government sets up task force teams for border control made up of only the boys?” he asked,
According to him, many things will likely happen such as:

  1. Military or Police personnel that they encounter at the various borders/boundaries may react angrily and shoot them and claim they tried to rob them. The dead boys will just go like that.
  2. Criminal gangs will start blocking various roads in the name of task force on border to rob people,
  3. The boys themselves are very likely to be compromised with money by road users thereby defeating the purpose for which the task force was set up with all the attendant risks.

That is the reason I warned two days ago that the governor should not set up that task force instead continue to work with security agencies to enforce lockdown of the state.”
It will be recalled that in an earlier statement circulated to media houses days back, the former APC publicity secretary had forewarned of the dangers of setting up of borders task force, this was before the Rivers State Police Command released a statement on the killing of the policewoman.
The Rivers State Police Command announced the death of W/Sgt Lovender Elekwachi who until her untimely death was serving at Eneka Division and was posted to the Eneka roundabout on traffic duties.
‘’The late Woman Sergeant was shot while controlling traffic by Sergeant Bitrus Osaiah attached to the Operations Department of the Command,’’ Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni said in a statement it released Thursday.
‘’Meanwhile, the Sergeant who is said to be attached the Rivers State Task Force on Decongestion, has been arrested, disarmed and undergoing Orderly Room Trial. Two other members of the Task Force have also been arrested and are being questioned. The Hilux vehicle belonging to the Task Force has been impounded and the corpse of the Woman Sergeant deposited in the mortuary.’’
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph G. Mukan, psc (+) has ordered investigation into the matter with a view to unraveling the circumstances that led to her death and has appealed for calm, pending the outcome of the investigation, promising that the interest of justice must be served in the circumstance.
