WASHINGTON – FRI, FEBRUARY 08 2019-theG&BJournal-  Dozens of the nation’s governors will join leaders from business, the nonprofit sector and global governments for the National Governors Association’s 111th annual Winter Meeting, a showcase for the best in governance and civic innovation and an opportunity for governors to learn from each other and from other luminaries.

Jamie Dimon, who leads the largest U.S. bank as chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., and former presidential advisor Van Jones, who now hosts an eponymous public-affairs program on CNN, are among the guests scheduled to address governors at the meeting scheduled for Feb. 22-25 at the Marriott Marquis in Washington.

Governors of states and territories, including many of the 22 who have taken office since last November’s midterm elections, will lead and participate in discussions on topics such as child welfare, resiliency against disaster, education reform, entrepreneurship and more.

The Winter Meeting is one of the two marquee annual convenings of the National Governors Association. NGA’s Summer Meeting is scheduled for July in Salt Lake City.

“The NGA Winter Meeting is an opportunity for governors to share experiences, learn about best practices in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, and educate themselves on the top issues of our time,” said NGA Chair and Montana Governor Steve Bullock. “I look forward to welcoming our distinguished guests to Washington for what’s sure to be a meaningful and productive four days.”

Bullock’s Chair’s Initiative, Good Jobs for All Americans, aims to help midcareer workers navigate technological displacement and participate in the workforce of the future. It will be the subject of the meeting’s opening session, which will feature James Fallows and Deborah Fallows, the authors of Our Towns; Richard Haass, the president of the Council on Foreign Relations; and former U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker, along with Gov. Bullock.

At another panel discussion, two former U.S. secretaries of education, John B. King Jr. and Rod Paige, will offer their perspectives on innovative state education policies that can help students achieve success.
