THUR, JULY 16 2020-theG&BJournal-The former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Joi Nunieh is taking refuge at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt after armed police attempted to forcefully remove her from her residence today.
She described the incident at her residence this morning to Arise News Television anchors who reached her via telephone at the residence of the Rivers State Governor, Nyisom Wike, saying that the Rivers State Police Commissioner had no idea of the raid.
‘’Senator Magnus Abe called me after a while to say that the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Rivers didn’t really know about it and that the CP was going to reach me, and he did reach me and said that he wasn’t aware of what is going on. And then I saw the cars come in, I asked if that is the CP, they said yes. Fortunately, I was wise enough. I stayed by the door and as they wanted to grab me, I just banged the door and locked my door and called my Governor to tell him what has happened and he said to me, don’t go anywhere that he was on his way.’’
She said the police officers spent about one hour trying to break down the security doors.
‘’When they came, I ask for their warrant of arrest they said they didn’t have any, I asked how do I know you are police men and told them I can’t go with them, because I need to see the warrant of arrest,’’ she explained.
According to her, Governor Wike came and chased them out asking ‘’why should they come to arrest the woman like an armed robber,’’ before she entered Wike’s car to the Government House.
It is not certain yet who ordered her arrest amidst the embarrassing allegations of sexual harassment and corruption she leveled on Monday against the Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Akpabio, Wednesday denied the allegations of sexual harassment and corruption in a statement he released to the media yesterday, saying that he is a ‘’happily married man.’’
Nunieh was scheduled to appear at the National Assembly in Abuja today but she said she won’t be going to Abuja anytime soon.
