WED 20 JAN, 2021-theGBJournal- Few events attract as much media attention and have as much impact on the world as the inauguration of a new U.S. President. Just like the Olympic Games, it occurs once in four years, yet it is one of the most over-covered events on the planet, and for a reason.

The occasion provides the incoming president platform to give a speech about Americas’ future.

Today, the attention is on the inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the country- of over 350 million Americans. And like every other incoming-president, Joe Biden laid out hope after four divisive years of Donald Trump presidency, calling on Americans to unite while projecting a sense of empathy.

He said, in front of hundreds of dignitaries that includes former Presidents and Vice President Mike Pence that, ‘’the will of the people has been heard, and the will of the people has been heeded,’’ after he took the oath of office.

Biden’s first speech to the nation was more of healing the divide, reaching out across the aisle, beyond politics. In all of this he declared, ‘’my whole sole is in this,’’ while pledging that he ‘’will be a president for all Americans.

President Biden made the call for unity and tweeted shortly after he was sworn ‘’now the real work begins, folks.’’

The 78 year President gave his remarks after Kamala Harris, the first black American and the first woman of Asian heritage was sworn as the Vice President on a history making day.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are inheriting a splintered society and they are inheriting a society deeply divided by hate and racism.  A tough America, confronted by Trumpism, the Proud Boys, QAnon conspiracy group, a battered global image and a tough America with hugely depleted middle class.

But Joe Biden had already signalled that America will re-engage with the rest of the world and assured that he will use his early days in office to issue executive orders to undo the raft of questionable orders issued by the disgraced outgoing President Trump- impeached twice by members of the U.S House of Representatives.
