TUE JUNE 10 2025-theGBJournal| Jigawa State government’s to bid tackle two tough challenges of malnutrition and climate change head-on received a big boost Monday when the State Governor flagged off the distribution of biofortified seeds to 30,000 smallholder farmers across the state.
The State Government, with support from HarvestPlus Nigeria, a non-profit organisation focused on improving nutrition and public health, and other partners, is handing over hundreds of bags of Vitamin A fortified Maize and Iron & Zinc fortified Millet seeds to farmers.
The State Governor, Umar Nnamadi at the flag off of the programme said, ”the seed are not regular seeds our farmers plant Year after year, they’re high-yielding, climate-smart, and packed with nutrients. In other words, they grow well and help us stay healthy.”
He added, ”this is part of something bigger—recruiting more extension workers, supporting rice and wheat farmers with input loans, and setting up farm mechanization service centres across the state. Piece by piece, we’re putting in place a better, more secure food system for Jigawa State.”
While encouraging the farmers, he assured them that they are a major part of the plan of the government’s drive towards fortifying food security in the state.
”To our farmers,” he said, ”you are not you are the plan. Let’s make the most of it. Together, we are creating a healthier, more resilient future.”
