SUN, NOV 12 2023-theGBJournal|The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commission Supervisory Presiding Officer, Ms Ebehireme Blessing Ekwe, who was abducted on the eve of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election was freed yesterday, INEC said today.

The circumstances of her abduction are not clear but it underscores the tensed and volatile electioneering in the State.

However, she was abducted same day, on 10th November, the INEC announced that a boat carrying election personnel to Registration Area-17 (Koluama) in Southern Ijaw LGA, capsized. 12 of its personnel were on the boat.

The Commission also confirmed same day that it lost all of its election result sheets, power banks and luggage containing personal effects of staff.

In the statement today announcing her release, INEC attached a photo of the freed officer with the National Commissioner supervising Bayelsa State, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu and the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Obo Effanga.
