SAT, 19 NOV, 2022-theGBJournal| The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has slated 93.5 million ballot papers in the event of a run-off at the 2023 Presidential election as well as in States where run-off is required.
This was disclosed Friday by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu represented by Barr. Festus Okoye in a round table meeting with Media Bureau Chiefs in Abuja to discuss the “Electoral Act 2022 and New Technologies for the #NigeriaDecides2023 election”.
Okoye said that 93. 5 million ballot papers will be used overall during the February 2023 Presidential election. He noted that the Commission plans to print 187 million ballot papers.
18 political parties will be participating in the 2023 elections and the number of registered voters, according to INEC, now stand at 93.5 million. 9,518, 188 has so far been added to the existing register of 84, 004, 084 voters.
INEC, again assured Nigerians that the processes and procedures as well as the preparations for the conduct of the 2023 general election are on course.
According to Okoye, ‘’out of the 14 items in our Timetable and Schedule of Activities, we have implemented 9 and we implemented all of them on schedule. We are comfortable with the level of our preparations and as the Chairman of the Commission has assured the nation, never again will scheduled elections be postponed or rescheduled on account of logistics and logistics challenges.’’
