FRI, 01 JULY, 2022-theGBJournal| The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ordered the Continuous voter Registration exercise to continue nationwide, and consequently directed all the Resident Electoral Commissioners and Electoral Officers to continue with the exercise pending further directive from the Commission.

INEC took the decision after its meeting Thursday where it deliberated on a ‘’number of issues, including the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the issuance of Certified True Copies (CTC) of documents and the commencement of the uploading of the list and personal particulars of Governorship and State Assembly Candidates,’’

‘’The Commission has consistently reiterated its resolve to provide electoral services to the Nigerian people and register all eligible Nigerians that are interested in registering,’’ INEC said in a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoya.

INEC said also that it has deployed additional machines to areas of pressure, and ‘’will continue to serve the people of Nigeria.’’

Meanwhile, the case at the Federal High Court relating to the terminal date of the CVR came up last Wednesday, and according to the Commission, based on its request, the Court granted an accelerated hearing and adjourned the matter to Monday 4th July 2022 for hearing of the substantive matter. The Commission says it will give an update after court hearing next week.

On the issue of CTC, the Commission says it has so far processed 186 requests for CTCs, running into hundreds of pages.
