BAUCHI, JUNE 20, 2016 – Justice Rabi Umar, the Chief Judge of Bauchi State on Monday said she would reintroduce SERVICOM system to ensure effective service delivery.Umar stated this in Bauchi during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Umar was sworn-in on June 9, two years after the state operated without a substantive chief judge.
She said that the reintroduction of SERVICOM had become necessary to remove the current decay in the judiciary.
Umar said that she would begin by curbing lateness, absenteeism and truancy to work by judicial staff to ensure that “everybody come in at 8.00 a.m., sign in and sign out at the appropriate time.
“Because it doesn’t auger well for someone to come to work at either 10.00 a.m. or 11.00 a.m. and by 12.00 p.m. or 1.00 p.m. leaves for his personal business.
“That was not the promise he or she made when he or she was employed,” she said.
“What I want to tell the judicial staff is that change is inevitable and they should be prepared for that because I am going to work very hard to ensure that everybody lives up to his or her obligation,” she said.
Umar said that she would seek the cooperation of her colleagues, particularly fellow judges, management staff, stakeholders and members of bar to ensure effective service delivery.
She said that inadequate funding and courtrooms were some of the major problems being faced by the judiciary in the state.
“Thank God, His Excellency, the governor of Bauchi State is one of our own, so I am very sure that he is going to work toward seeing that we solve these issues once and for all.
“He has already promised us that he will make available the magistrates complex to us and even the Judges Court halls that have not been completed.
“He promised to ensure that at the end of the day every judge and magistrate will be accommodated in his own chamber and courtroom,” she said.
The new chief judge assured members of the public that they would get justice as at and when due.
