WED 24 FEB, 2021-theGBJournal- The new Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, 40, told the Senate during his confirmation hearing that he will leave the Commission in a better place by the end of his tenure, describing the Commission as the only cosmopolitan Agency in the country, given the composition of the board.

‘’To our strategic partners around the world, I intend to work with them closely by sharing information in order to attain  our mutual and independent objective,’’ the new EFCC boss assured shortly before his seamless confirmation and during his presentation to the Senate today.

The Senate Deputy President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege described Bawa’s presentation as ‘’awesome’’ adding that he is ‘’impressed.’’

‘’There would be no need to ask him any questions. Clearly, he is a very brilliant young man,’’ the Senate Deputy President said, thus paving the way for Bawa’s smooth and quick confirmation.

The FBI and the UK National Crime Agency trained Financial Crimes expert, joined the EFCC in 2014 and was trained in the act of law enforcement and financial crimes investigation. He is the only officer that has headed three different zones.

He gave quick insight on his to-do-list which includes the repatriation of ‘’our stolen asset for the benefit and betterment of all Nigerians.’’

He said he is going to give the young people a very good representation in the governance of the country, ‘’so that more young people will be given more responsibility in this country.’’

‘’It is a dream of every patriotic Nigerian to see Nigeria growing to a greater height and I hope and pray that if confirmed, I will live to contribute my quota in seeing that this country is taken to greater heights.

His presentation drew praise also from Senators Oluremi Tinubu.

The EFCC boss pledged to reposition one of the key arms of the agency, the Directorate of Internal Affairs that police the officers of the EFCC.

‘’The self-cleansing is going to commence regarding the repositioning of that department,’’ Bawa said.

‘’What I can do differently is leading by example. I have never been in office a minute after 8.00am except something happens. I will try as much as possible to ensure that I am leading the path.’’

On the issues of asset disposal, he said ‘’God willing, will be carried out on case by case basis. As we are concluding a case in court and sequel to court’s judgenment, we will go on discharging that asset and I think that will solve most our problems.’’
