Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba-Jimeta, the Chief of Staff to Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla of Adamawa, says he was not arrested or being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He stated this in a press statement issued in Yola on Wednesday.
“I am not under any investigation by the EFCC, and indeed any law enforcement agency in the country to warrant my being arrested and whisked away as reported by media.’’
He urged the general public to disregard the story being bandied about, adding that they were the handiwork of mischief makers and detractors.
He said he only complained in a letter to the EFCC on April 11, 2016, that some officials of the agency had mistakenly sealed up his property under construction on Bekaji Road in Jimeta.
“I was only invited to the Gombe office of EFCC to show proof that the property actually belonged to me.
“The Adamawa State Urban Planning and Development Authority on April 29, 2014, allocated corner shop measuring 6×8 meters on plots no. 53 and 54 to me and an aide to a former governor being investigated by the agency.
“The project was abandoned at foundation level since 2014. In 2015, the aide sold his plot to me. I now own the corner shop plots fully. The projects are at various stages of construction.’’
The statement said sealing up the property by EFCC might not be intentional as they were under the perception that the property belonged to former aide of the immediate past governor.
He said the property in question could not have been valued at N284 million “being quoted by mischief makers in media as the construction is at 45% completion.’’
He urged media professionals to always cross check for facts before publishing.
