Niger State Governor Umaru Bago hosted global leaders, industry captains, policymakers, investors, and the Nigerian diaspora at the inaugural Niger Day on the sideline of the 80th United Nations General Assembly

SUN SEPT 28 2025-theGBJournal| On the sideline of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, Niger State Governor Umaru Bago hosted global leaders, industry captains, policymakers, investors, and the Nigerian diaspora at the inaugural Niger Day, a key event spotlighting the state’s ambitious development agenda.

The event featured two high-level panel discussions on Human Capital Development and Investments and Agricultural Transformation, all of which underscored Niger State’s 30-year vision plan, built on four interconnected pillars: improved livelihoods, a sustainable economy, urban renewal with rural transformation, and good governance.

With this roadmap, the Bago administration aims to lift millions out of poverty, promote world-class industries, modernize urban and rural areas, and establish accountable institutions, positioning Niger State as a model for subnational transformation in Africa.

Global leaders who contributed to the robust discussions included Hajiya Shamsuna Ahmed (World Bank Group), Ahunna Eziakonwa (UNDP Africa), Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Nigeria’s Minister for Trade and Investment), Oliver Alawuba (Group Managing Director, UBA), Dave Krog (CEO, Salin 247, Iowa, USA), and Dr. Abdulateef Shittu (Director-General, Nigeria Governors’ Forum).

A major highlight was the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to drive strategic partnerships including the Salin 247 Inc.: A framework to improve agricultural mechanization through AI and smart technology, Junior Achievement Nigeria: Implementation of the School-to-Work Education Transition for Long-term Youth Fulfillment (SET4LYF) program to empower youth and the Ethnomet Inc.: Deployment of 274 Virtual Primary Care Centres, one in every ward, to revolutionize healthcare delivery and capacity building through technology.

These partnerships reaffirm Niger State’s commitment to transforming agriculture, empowering youth, boosting school enrollment, and enhancing primary healthcare, with a focus on people-centered sustainable development.
