“When the COVID-19 virus was announced, we started a technical working group for preparedness. We had all partners involved and started preparing, looking at infrastructure, schedules of drugs, points of entries where suspected cases would most likely be coming from. Immediately, we had the first suspected case in February, we quickly started the Emergency Operations Centre. We finalized our Incident Action Plan and followed it strictly to ensure we didn’t leave any stone unturned. The World Bank, UNICEF, WHO and the NCDC all worked as one to pull this off,” said Dr. Oladejo.
Oladejo said, coordination among all partners in countries and across boundaries is essential to prevent the spread of an outbreak.
Since then, the NCDC has established the National Emergency COVID-19 (LF) multi-partner, multi-sectoral Operations Centre (EOC) and activated at level continues to coordinate response activities across states.
It has established 7 COVID-19 diagnostic capacities, Deployed national rapid response team to support the affected states, enhanced surveillance (including contact tracing) ongoing in affected states and deployed medical commodities to affected states.
Meanwhile, the NCDC has reviewed downwards the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country to 209. But the number of the discharged and deaths stays the same.
The NCDC said the 26th case earlier included in the count was a repeat result of a previously confirmed case and not a new case.
