JANUARY 9, 2018 – The two attackers were lighting up world football back in 2013 and both had a chance to win the Ballon d’Or come the end of the year.
Real Madrid’s Ronaldo scooped the award for only his second time to stop four years of Lionel Messi dominance.
But Ribery thinks that the Golden Ball should have been his and he is still sour about it to this day.
The French international won five trophies including the Champions League and Bundesliga title during the calendar year.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo won zero awards over the 12-month period, besides the Ballon d’Or.
And Ribery thinks that he was even betrayed by his own country during the selection process.
“2013 Balon d’Or? They robbed me,” Ribery told Mundo Deportivo.
“It’s incredible since I had a big year and won a ton of trophies.
“I gave it my all and I think that I deserved that Ballon d’Or.
“It wasn’t fair. France Football? I did not have my own country behind me.
“I saw it with my own eyes as the French said that Cristiano Ronaldo had to win after his performance against Sweden.
“Did anyone want me or Messi to win the award? Of course not….”
