FRI, JULY 17 2020-theG&BJournal– The House of Representatives Committee investigating the hordes of corrupt activities in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a summon to both the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Obot Akpabio as well as the acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NDDC, Daniel Pondei to appear before it on Monday, 20th July 2020 by 11 am.
The summons followed the series of damaging allegations by the former managing director of the Commission Joi Nunieh, heard by the House Committee members today at the ongoing public hearing on the NDDC finances in Abuja. Nunieh testified to the House Committee via zoom in Port Harcourt.
Nunieh testimony is a recount of the allegations she spilled during the week including discussions which tried to force her to take an ‘’illegal’’ oath against the dictate of the Federal Constitution, allegations of numerous scam COVID-19 contracts, contracts for desilting of Waterways as well as corruption violating the Nigeria Procurement Act. Nunieh also repeated her claim that there no forensic audit going on at the NDDC.
The House Members adopted a motion that the service of the notice of the summons should be via electronics media, publications and advertisement.
Pondei will be making a second trip to the public hearing after he acrimoniously walked out on the hearing yesterday during his interrogation. The Committee had also ordered his arrest.
