FRI 09 APRIL, 2021-theGBJournal- Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth 11 for over 70 years, has died aged 99, Buckingham Palace announces.
The British Royal Family in a statement Friday said, ‘’His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss’’
They said ‘’further announcements will be made in due course.’’ The Duke was recently released from hospital after a heart operation.
The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson paid tribute to the duty and support the Prince gave to her Royal Majesty, the Queen. ‘’Like the expert carriage driver that he was, he helped to steer the Royal Family and the Monarchy to be the institution indisputably vital to the balance and happiness of our national life.’’
Boris Johnson noted that the Prince was an environmentalist and a champion of the natural world long before it was fashionable.
‘’With the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme, he shaped and inspired the lives of countless young people.’’
Johnson said the Duke is remembered ‘’above all for his steadfast support for her Majesty the Queen, not just as her consort by her side everyday of her reign but as her husband, her strength and stay of more than 70 years and it is to her Majesty and her family that our nation’s thoughts must turn today. Because they have lost not just a much loved highly respected public figure but a devoted husband and a proud loving father, grandfather and in recent years, great grandfather.’’
