FRI, MAY 26 2023-theGBJournal |The Five-man Supreme justices on Friday ruled that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lacked the locus standi to institute the suit, consenting to earlier jugdement given by the Court of Appeal.

The PDP had gone to court to seek the disqualification of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, now President-Elect and his Vice-President-Elect, Kashim Shettima as candidates in the February 25, 2023 Presidential Election.

The PDP suit was file on July 28, 2022, arguing that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate was in breach of the provisions of sections 29(1), 33, 35 and 84(1)(2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The Lead Judge, Justice Adamu Jauro, lambasted and described the PDP as a ”meddlesome interloper and busy body” as the matter of the nomination of the APC Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates is an ”internal affair” of the party.

He further ruled that the attitude of the appellant (PDP), amounts to misleading the court, describing the move as ”sad.”

Justice Jauro went on to award the sum of N2 million against the PDP, and dismissed the suit for lacking merit.

”This is a huge blow to the PDP and oppositions,” a political watcher told theGBJournal in Lagos.

”I see a lot of heartaches at the end of the Tribunal hearing on the presidential election dispute, given what has transpired today,” he added.
