SAT, JUNE 22 2019-theG&BJournal-The 18 year old goalkeeper Chiwendu Ihezue, defender Osinachi Ohale and striker Desire Oparanozie played an outstanding game. Fransisca Ordega was the terrier comparable to the French international Ngolo Kante for her tireless running and passing. The Super Falcons had a terrific game. Asisat Oshoala was left out from the starting line up but the Super Falcons started the game in excellent fashion.
But it wasn’t enough.
The Super Falcons were dumped out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals after a 3-0 defeat to Germany in Grenoble in the knock out stage.
Nigeria conceded twice inside 30 minute of the first half. Both German goals, a header from set-piece by Alexandra Popp and the second a penalty by Daebritz after a near horrible miss-kick by Nigerian defender Halimatu Ayinde. Nigeria learnt again the cruel impact of VAR as the penalty was awarded after a VAR review.
In the second half the Super Falcons came close to scoring what would been a terrific goal after a brilliant run down the left flank by Ajibade. Striker Oparanozie missed her striker and the chance to get Nigeria back into the game.
The Germans killed off the game in the 81st minute after a horror back pass by Ajibade released the lurking German striker Lea Schueller to tuck home the third goal and send Nigeria out of the tournament.
