MON OCT 14 2024-theGBJournal| The Head of the Nigerian Community in Benghazi, Morris Eromosele, arrived at the location where Nigeria’s Super Eagles are intentionally restricted by Libyan authorities.

Eromosele arrived at 6am this morning, according to Nigerian Mission officials, with necessary supplies and internet access, part of concerted effort to extricate the Eagles from their harrowing ordeal at the abandoned Libyan airport.

Through the Head of Nigerian Mission in Tripoli, Libya, Amb. Stephen Anthony Awuru, the Mission has maintained contact with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the Libyan authorities since last night.

Despite efforts, Libyan authorities have not yet authorized the Nigerian Mission’s trip to Bayda City, where the abandoned airport is located.

”We will continue to follow developments and await a report for further action,” Nigerian Mission said in a statement today.

Meanwhile Super Eagles Captain William Troost-Ekong has described their ordeal in Libya as ”unacceptable”, haven spent 12+ hours stranded in the abandoned airport after their plane was diverted whilst descending.

On touch down, Ekong said; ”they have locked the airport gates and left us without phone connection, food or drink. all to play mind games.”

The Nigerian crew members of the airline that flew the Eagles are experiencing similar disturbing situation as they were denied access to any hotel, on instruction of the Libyan Government.

Ekong called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to look into the matter with urgency.

”Even if they decide to allow this kind of behavior, let them (Libya) have the points,” Ekong said.

CAF is yet to respond to Troost-Ekong’s call.

He also called on the Nigerian Government to come to their rescue.

Ekong insists the team will not accept to travel anywhere by road here even with security. ”It is not safe,” he adds.
