The meeting, held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was a continuation of an earlier inconclusive meeting, held last week Wednesday at the same venue.
Speaking with newsmen after the closed-door meeting, chairman of the forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, said the forum was expected to table the outcome of the meeting before President Muhammadu Buhari later today (Thursday). The meeting is scheduled to hold at 2pm inside the council chambers of the Presidential Villa.
Governors at the meeting included Zamfara, Kano, Kwara, Borno, Ondo, Delta, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Niger, Enugu, Ogun, Nasarawa, Katsina and Kebbi. Deputy governors included those of Bayelsa, Anambra and Oyo states.
“We met as Nigeria Governors’ Forum. At the executive session, we discussed a lot of economic issues. The meeting is not yet concluded. We are continuing next week. Therefore, by next week Thursday, we will be able to give you a recap of what was discussed and the agreement reached.
“In the mean time, you will bear with us until next week. We are discussing critically about the nation’s economy as a follow-up to our last retreat.
“By next week Thursday, we will be able to give you the details of our meeting and further actions” the governor said.
