Governor Sanwo-Olu hosts Belgium Ambassador to Nigeria, says Lagos values collaborations that promote trade, investment and cultural exchange

THUR APRIL 10 2025-theGBJournal| Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has extended his administration’s unwavering support for the growing bilateral relationship between Belgium and Nigeria.

He gave the assurance in his goodwill message during a reception hosted by the Belgium Ambassador to Nigeria, H. E. Pieter Leenknegt, in collaboration with the CBL -ACP Chamber of Commerce, held at Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of Lagos State, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin emphasised the strategic importance of Lagos as the commercial heartbeat of Nigeria and a pivotal player in fostering international partnerships. “Lagos State, as the economic hub of Nigeria, values collaborations that promote trade, investment, and cultural exchange”, he added.

He applauded the Belgian Embassy and the CBL-ACP Chamber of Commerce for their continuous efforts in enhancing bilateral ties. Highlighting the role of diplomacy in driving prosperity and innovation, the Governor commended Ambassador Leenknegt’s commitment to building enduring relationships through dialogue, engagement and mutual respect.

He noted that the reception serves as a testament to the shared vision of prosperity and global partnership between the two countries. He also reiterated the Lagos State’s openness to international collaboration and assured attendees of the readiness to explore new frontiers for joint initiatives that will further foster economic growth and people-to-people connectivity.

The evening culminated in an atmosphere of cordiality marked by fruitful discussions, strengthened networks, and renewed optimism for greater cooperation between Belgium and Nigeria.

Key stakeholders from both nations attended the event to celebrate and deepen the spirit of diplomatic and economic collaboration.

Dignitaries at the event included the Honourary Belgium Consul in Lagos and General Manager, Manuchar, Nigeria, Matthias De Pauw, Senior Consultant Nigeria Belgium Luxembourg Business Forum, Mr. Collins Nweke, Vice-President CBL-ACP, Mr. Dominiek Viaene and top Lagos businessmen and women who were invited to register and participate in the business forum holding between 22nd and 24th October, 2025 in Brussels.
