TUE 19 APRIL, 2022-theGBJournal | After weeks of speculation, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the State House Marina, Lagos, following from a Sunday meeting gave nod to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a term bid in office.
The ‘’go-ahead’’ by the GAC which is the apex body within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), effectively makes Sanwo-Olu the consensus candidate for the APC in the 2023 general election.
Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary revealed on his Twitter handle today that the GAC gave a pass mark to the Governor for staying through the development agenda of Lagos State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu was initially rumoured to be pushed out of office like his predecessor, Akinwumi Ambode, who fell out with the State’s party strong man, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, ‘’Sanwo-Olu’s steadfast campaign for Tinubu is said to what swayed the ‘’old man’’, one insider told theGBJournal. ‘’Sanwo-Olu demonstrated open loyalty to Tinubu, that is why you see his boys join in the celebration of the news,’’ he said.
Tinubu, in an APC rally recently, described Sanwo-Olu as the ‘’brightest, committed focused youth as a Governor of Lagos State,’’ a speech which signalled the Sanwo-Olu’s emergence as the consensus candidate.
