SUN, NOV 12 2023-theGBJournal|Hope Uzodinma of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Imo State Governorship election, sweeping the polls with over 80% of the total vote cast, and well ahead of the main party rivals the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) and the Labour Party (LP).
The result announced today by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer showed that Uzodinma scored a total of 540, 308 while the APC candidate came distant second with a total of 71, 503 votes and Labour Party scored 64, 081 votes.
”That Uzodinma Odidika Hope of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Fashina Abayomi, the returning officer said after announcing the reults and scores of all the candidates in the election.
He thus begins his second tenure as the Governor of the State.
Meanwhile, the PDP and LP leadership have rejected the result, calling for its cacellation while sighting collusion of INEC officials and Police and rigging.
Both Parties put out statements rejecting the outcome of the election before the election was called.
