MON, NOV 13 2023-theGBJournal|Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Governor Douye Diri swept to victory in Bayelsa State off-cycle election held on Saturday, brushing aside his biggest challenger, Timipre Sylva to secure a total of 175, 196 votes.
Sylva scored a total of 110, 108 votes to come in second despite his robust challenge.
The victory effectively secures the Governor a second term to carry on his own policies of development which is considered by many as ‘commendable.”
Diri celebrated the Bayelsa victory, expressing his ”deepest gratitude to the people of Bayelsa” for their ”overwhelming support that turned out to be more like a movement in Bayelsa State.”
He added, ”I accept your mandate I accept your mandate to serve you again as governor with utmost humility. Be rest assured that I will continue to serve with integrity, dedication and transparency. Let us embark on this next phase of our prosperity journey together, knowing that the future of Bayelsa State rests in our hands and ultimately in the hands of God.”
