WED SEPT 10 2025-theGBJournal| Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has extended an invitation to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to audit the financial record books of the state, to make corrections where necessary, and to identify areas of improvement.
The farmer governor stated this when he declared open the 20th Northern Zonal Accountants Conference in Minna, with the theme, “Accountability and National Re-orientation: Unlocking Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Potentials.”
He said the partnership with ICAN to audit the state’s financial record would set an example for other states of the federation, adding that transparency and fiscal discipline are necessary tools for delivering good governance and unlocking the vast potentials of the state economy.
The farmer governor noted that the theme for the conference is apt, and it reflects the situation in the country, stressing that the need for accountability, rebuilding trust, fostering national values, and stimulating economic growth cannot be overemphasised.
The farmer governor said his administration will continue to strengthen institutions of accountability for the benefit of the people while urging the participants to deliberate and come up with practical recommendations that would help governments at all levels build stronger systems and inspire public confidence.
The ICAN president, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, expressed delight with the partnership to audit the financial books of Niger State and assured that ICAN will be independent in carrying out the task.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alh. Mohammed Idris said the theme of the conference aligned with the national agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as accountability is the cornerstone of every thriving society.
Represented by the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace, the minister said the Ministry of Information and National Orientation is deepening citizen engagement and opening government initiatives, emphasising that accountability is a shared national responsibility and everyone must be committed to it to unlock Nigeria’s future.
