SEPTEMBER 27, 2016 – Google may finally be bringing together the worlds of Android and Chrome OS.The search giant plans to release a laptop and tablet powered by a new operating system, called Andromeda, which merges Android and Chrome OS, according to reports Monday in 9to5Google and Android Police.
Google has been hinting at a combined OS for years, with earlier reports pointing to a 2017 debut.
Google will launch Andromeda on a Huawei tablet with Nexus branding, unnamed sources told 9to5Google. The other device will be an “ultra-thin” convertible laptop, said Android Police, also citing unnamed sources. The so-called “Pixel 3” laptop will be released near the end of 2017, said Android Police.
Google declined to comment. Huawei didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
