SAT, JUNE 10 2023-theGBJournal |Bayo Onanuga took a swipe at the just sacked Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, describing him (Emefiele) as the Worst CBN governor in Nigeria’s history.
”Good riddance to worst CBN governor in History,” the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign council spokesperson wrote on his twitter handle late Friday.
Emefiele was fired Friday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with immediate effect and replaced him with the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.
Shonubi, 62, and a graduate of the University of Lagos, has been Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, since October 2028.
Onanuga had been one of the most vocal critic of Emefiele’s Naira redesign and Naira swap policy during the February 25,2023 election campaign period.
He shared two infographics that he said vividly show the monumental damage Godwin Emefiele inflicted on our economy and Nigerians in the first quarter of 2023 ”with his insane Naira crunch.”
He also taunted Emefiele’s handling of the Naira exchange rate, saying under his watch, ”unoffcial rate is worse.”
The official rate of the Naira witnessed a 198% change between June 2014 and June 2023.
