TUE AUG 27 2024-theGBJournal| The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named German-born tactician Bruno Labbadia, 58, as new Super Eagles Head Coach, after reaching an agreement.
He replaces Finidi George who resigned from the position on 15 June after a poor run of results.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, who announced Labbadia’s appointment in the early hours of today, said “the NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Labbadia, becomes 37th Head Coach of the Nigeria Super Eagles squad. His appointment, the NFF said, is with immediate effect.
The NFF said Labbadia’s immediate challenge is to take charge of the Super Eagles for two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda with four other matches to conclude the qualifying race in October and November.
Labbadia in his coaching career has handled famous German club sides such as, Hertha Berlin, VFB Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen as well as VFL Wolfsburg and Hamburg SV among others.
He was also capped twice for the German national side as a striker, and have won the DFB-Pokal in 1989-90 with FC Kaiserslautern and the German Bundesliga in 1993-94 with FC Bayern Munich.
